Travel Information for Hungary

Hungary is part of the Schengen Area, meaning entry requirements depend on your nationality. Before making travel arrangements, we encourage all participants to verify whether they require a visa and ensure that all travel documentation is in order.

Do I Need a Visa?

EU, EEA and Swiss Citizens
Citizens of European Union member states, EEA countries, and Switzerland benefit from freedom of movement and do not require a visa to enter Hungary.
Visa-Exempt Travelers
Citizens of many countries may travel to Hungary and the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This applies to tourism, business meetings, conferences, and short professional visits.
Visa-Required Travelers
If your nationality is not eligible for visa-free travel, you must obtain a Schengen Visa (Type C) before traveling. Applications must be submitted through the appropriate Hungarian Embassy or Consulate. Hungary does not offer a visa-on-arrival option for travelers who require a visa.
Understanding the 90/180-Day Rule
For visa-exempt travelers, the maximum permitted stay is 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. This is not 90 days per country. Time spent in any Schengen country counts toward the same limit.
Travel Document Requirements
Before traveling to Hungary, please ensure that your passport:
✔ Was issued within the last 10 years
✔ Is valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure
✔ Contains sufficient blank pages for entry and exit stamps
Invitation Letters
TPF can provide an official invitation letter for registered delegates who require supporting documentation for their visa application process. Invitation letters will be issued upon request after registration has been completed.
