TPF FORWARDING NETWORK was founded in 1990 in Los Angeles (CA) as group of international freight forwarders and customs brokers and six years later it became incorporated in the same state as a “non-profit mutual benefit corporation”.
Becoming a TPF member has a number of advantages and benefits:
Members keep their independence at all times. They are never “forced” to accept conditions for shipments or profit shares others than those agreed on by both parties involved in a transaction. Whenever business comes from a TPF source, TPF does not charge for that or for transactions between members.
TPF belongs to the members and is run by members (there is not an owner like it is the case in most other places). There is a BoD, elected among the members during the annual General Assembly Meeting (GAM) but, in TPF, the members decide in which direction they want the group to go.
In fact, members work together in committees and groups according to region and/or interest in order to come up with joint strategies to develop business and grow together)
As mentioned above, unlike many other networks, TPF does not have an “owner” who makes a profit from the members’ fees. In our case, all the funds paid in by members are reinvested in services to the group.
In many territories there is still the option of choosing between being an exclusive member or holding a limited non-exclusive membership (which goes only up to three members). This covers all the country and as many offices as you may have (we don’t charge per office, city, port, etc). China and USA are a different case as they are such big countries and markets that they have been divided in “regions”, each considered as a country/market.

Due to the fact that it is based on exclusivity/limited non-exclusivity, the number of members TPF can ever have is limited. Here everybody knows everybody else and cares about them! You are not “another agent”. You are IMPORTANT!

Although we have a strict selection process to make sure that partners are not only reliable but share the same philosophy as us, still we offer financial security in the transactions between members because, after all, no matter how good and reliable one can be, things can go wrong and, occasionally, they do. This is called the In-House Protection Program.
TPF holds annual meetings with a view to facilitate the reunion of all partners in one single place as oppose to travel to different countries. We call this meeting the GAM (General Assembly Meeting) and it changes country every year so that it is easier for everybody to attend, as attending the GAM is essential.
Every year, some weeks before the GAM, TPF members fill in a short quality questionnaire through which they assess their partners’ performance. This helps us and them improve every year. And the 3 members with the highest number of points are given the TPF EXCELLENCE AWARDS.
Members can send information about their activities, changes in their offices, projects and anything they may be interested in to be published in our newsletters. Our bulletins also include information about our GAM or BoD meetings, Committees proposals, programs etc, as well as details about the industry.
